These display-only panels provide operator display of a large HO gauge railway "The McKinley Railway" in the UK. they are driven by older DTM16 boards, but with DTM30 firmware installed.
The bottom right panel has several boards to control it. The boards control the track occupancy LEDs (in amber) and the points (with blue LEDs). Two blue LEDs are used to indicate each route through a point, leading to a clearly lit "path of light" through the selected route even in complex junctions. The "cascade" facility has been used to light the path into only the selected track for the storage yards (see the right of the panel). The other paths are not selected by the ladder of points, so are not lit: it is obvious at a glance which path is enabled.
All of the points and sensors are displayed using individual LEDs within the panel. The wiring for these can't be avoided and uses ribbon cable to tidy it up as far as possible. It only has to go to the DTM16 boards which are also inside the panel: the only wiring input to the panel is the DC power feed and the LocoNet cable. The alternative would have been a wiring & maintenance nightmare! |
